On June, 5th, 2020 Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker approved the SB-0685 bill, which will automatically renew three homestead exemptions for next year. The SB-685 bill states that property owners who got the Homestead Exemption for Persons with Disabilities, Disabled Veterans Exemption, and the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Exemption last year you will not need to re-apply in 2020 for the tax bill payable in 2021. Because of the SB-685 bill as long as you qualified for the exemption last year it will automatically be renewed for next year.
If you did not qualify for any of these exemptions last year and qualify this year or need to get signed up for the first time, you will need to visit the Rock Island County Supervisor of Assessments office or your local Township Assessment office to get signed up.
Next year Rock Island County will mail out the renewal forms and you will need to renew them just like you would normally every year. This year is the exception due to the COVID-19 pandemic if you received the exemptions last year.
